I Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you.
Human instinct often leads us to put ourselves ahead of where we belong. We exalt ourselves though we don't deserve it. Who can blame us for thinking we deserve the best of everything? Our advertising tells us that we're worth only the best and anything less is just unfair or an infringement on our rights.
But God has something different in mind. He says that we should put ourselves last; in direct contradiction to the world's thinking and teaching.
The Lord's ways are often not what we would instinctively think to do. That's what sets us, disciples of Christ, apart from the rest of the world. God's instructions could not be any more clear: we must humble ourselves. That may lead to us not getting the credit we want here on earth, but in due time, the Lord will Himself exalt us. That is far greater than any earthly glory.
