First Peter 2:9
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."

The Latest Gossip

II Timothy 2:16 Avoid such godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.

We've all heard of the rumor weed. This is a metaphor used to talk about how gossip leads to more gossip as the "weed" grows and grows. Such is the nature of gossip. One need but mention a juicy tidbit to a friend and they are pressed for more details.

As disciples of Christ, we are called to spread, not rumors and gossip, but truth. Funny thing is; the truth isn't as interesting to the masses as the latest gossip. Mention the gospel of Jesus Christ and you may very well not be met with such pressing for more details. The reality is that we must work harder to spread the truth about God's love than we would if we were telling stories about pop icons.

The truth, at times, can hurt. And the truth that we are all sinners and cannot save ourselves is hard to hear. It's also hard to tell. But that does not make it any less true. We are to avoid godless chatter and instead converse about the Good News of our Lord and Savior.
