First Peter 2:9
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."

Do Not Sin Just Because You Can

Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

There is a great killer among new Christians and even some more mature Christ followers as well. It is not a killer of mind or of body, but a killer of the spirit. The killer is sin. Many a well-intentioned young Christian has come to faith, dedicated their life to Christ and yet found it hard to let go of the sings from their past. In learning that they are forgiven fro their sins because of the death and resurrection of Christ, indeed because of the grace of God, they decide that they can continue these sins, later to ask for and receive forgiveness.

Paul warns us that even though we are pardoned for our sins we are not to continue to sin just because we can expect so. Grace is not a license to sin more. The sort of Christian spoken of earlier, never quite letting go of sin because they expect forgiveness, never quite gives over their whole lives to Jesus. As non-devoted followers of Christ, they fall way too easily into the clutches of sin. For most, that spells the end of their spiritual journey as they find it much easier to just keep sinning than to let go and choose God and His true grace.

We must not start down this path. To be a Christ Disciple is to hate sin. We must abhor sin so much that when we do mess up, we truly repent and earnestly seek forgiveness and grace. From there, we move on, trying our hardest not to do it again.
